The Structure of a Season

The MSWL season starts with the AP Cup, then the League, then the MSWL Cup and ends with the Promotion/Relegation Playoffs.

Pre-Season Draft

The pre-season draft occurs just before the start of the new season.
All teams are eligible for the pre-season draft.
Each team gets to pick up one player and the order is based on each team's finish during the regular season of the previous season.
The last place team gets the first choice, second to last the second choice, and so on.
The first place team from the 1st Division gets the last pick.

We have 24 teams returning, renamed or replaced from Season 16.
Each draft will be conducted on a full-league basis with all teams drafting from the same pool of players.
A total of 28 players will be available to choose from with the following parameters:

67% Age 0 SL 4+
33% Age 1 SL 8+

Session

Each manager submits lineup order instructions online for each match, and the commissioner then resolves the matches using the OLMEC software which determines the scores and the effects of the session on each manager's club.

Matches are played on Saturdays and nearly all Wednesdays, kick-off is at 11 PM GMT.

Standings

Clubs are ranked in the League Leagues and the Cups primarily by the number of points (Pts) they earn. Clubs earn 3 Pts per win and 1 Pt per draw. Clubs with equal Pts shall have that tie broken using the following criteria (in order):

  1. Goal Differential
  2. Total Goals Scored
  3. Head To Head Record
  4. Most Goals Scored in Head To Head Play
  5. Games Won
  6. Goals scored @ home
  7. Home matches Won
  8. Leading Goal scorer
  9. Flip of a coin

League

The regular season will involve the 12 teams in each division playing the other teams in their division twice (once at home and once away) for a total of 22 matches. The schedule will be published at the beginning of the season.

  • 1st Division Financial Bonus: Due to some apparent “strategic advantages” of staying in the lower divisions for an extra season or two we are now giving a financial bonus to the 1st Division teams during their league games. All 1st Division game revenues will give each team an extra 25k per game.
  • At the start of the League season all players receive a +5 EL boost on top of their regular +4.
  • At the end of the League season, the bottom team of the 1st Division will be relegated and the top of the 2nd will be promoted.
  • Teams finishing 9th - 11th in the 1st Division and 2nd - 4th in the 2nd Division will play in the Play-offs
  • At the end of the League season all players receive a +5 EL boost on top of their regular +4, and all DP are set to 0. However suspensions will still hold.

The Cups

AP Cup

This is the 9th season for the Alan Parr Cup. We will play the AP Cup in its entirety, prior to the start of the league matches.

  • Teams are drawn in 6 groups of 4.
  • Each team plays the other teams in the group home and away.
  • The top 2 from each group and the 4 best 3rd place teams go to the knock-out stage according to the table below
    • The 4 3rd place teams will be placed in alphabetical order A3 to F3
    • The 1st of the 4 will play D1, the 2nd will play F1, then A1 then C1
  • Knock-out matches are one game played at the team with the best record's ground.
  • There is a 3rd/4th play-off for the losing semi-finalists.

MSWL Cup

  • At the end of the League season, just prior to the start of the MSWL Cup, all players receive a +5 EL boost on top of their regular +4 at the end of the last match.
  • All DP are set to 0. However suspensions from league play will carry over into the MSWL Cup.
  • All teams will play 14 matches.
  • Teams will be drawn into 6 groups of 4 as in the AP Cup
  • The top 2 teams from each group and the 4 best 3rd place teams will go through to the Sweet 16.
  • The remaining 8 teams will play for the Shield.

Sweet 16

  • Teams will play each other home and away.
  • If the aggregate score is equal then away goals will decide the winner, and if that is equal the game will go to penalties.
  • Winning teams play each other according to the table and so do losing teams.
    • So if A1 beat C3, and B2 beat C2, then A1 will play B2, and C2 will play C3.
  • This ladder system continues until the final giving a 1 to 16 order.

Shield

  • The 8 teams will be split into 2 groups of 4.
  • Teams play each other home and away for 6 games.
  • The top teams of each group play each other, home and away, for the Shield
    • 2nd to 4th of one group plays 2nd-4th of the other, home and away, for the minor placings.

Play-offs

  • The 6 1st/2nd Division playoff teams play a neutral match against each of the other teams (5 matches total).
  • The top 3 in the resulting standings play in the 1st Division the next season.
  • No gate money is earned and no CP or TP may be used.
  • DP are reset to zero at the start of the play-offs.

Awards

At the end of the regular season, the player who has scored the most goals in the regular season in the first division is awarded the "Golden Boot" and the “Silver Boot” is awarded to the leading goal scorer of the second. There are also awards in each division for the "Best Offensive Team" (most regular season goals scored), the "Best Defensive Team" (fewest regular season goals allowed) and “Golden Gloves” - Rating: ((100-(([GoalsAllowed]/[ShotsFaced]) * 100)) * .75) + ([ShotsFaced]*.25).

The “Boot” winners get 50k, while the other three receive 40k each.
