Player Primary Skills (Draft)
From Olmec Jaguar
Notes to authoring team:
- please include Shot Stopping, Tackling, Passing, and Shooting. Provide definitions of these.
- please add more on each skill's companion "improvement/ability" field from 1 to 1000. When the player surpasses 1000 their skill in that area goes up by 1. Likewise if they drop below 1, their skill is decremented by 1.
- please include Control as a "provisional" skill. I'm not 100% sure yet if this will be in the final mix. Rob P. is the sponsor and will need to describe it and continue to clarify how its unique and "just as important" as the others in terms of some level of "equality".

Deletion of stuff thats later in the doc now that we've had them both for a few days Graham

Shot stopping
- Shot Stopping (St), the ability to stop shots from any player, I believe that only goalies should have a rating for St, of course it can happen that your goalkeeper gets injured/sent off during a game, but then you will have a substitute goalie. If you have 2 goalies in your squad, you don't have a substitute goalie for the next game, but the chance that goalie also gets injured/sent off is very small. So I believe that outfield players can have a value of 1 - Rene
- All players have some goalkeeping abilities, so I'd prefer a random (but low) assignment of values for outfield players Graham 16:29, 26 November 2007 (CST)
- I can see your point, don't fully agree, but then it must be 1/3 of the value of a goalie at the most (start of the competition)

Tackling
- Tackling (Tk), the ability to make a tackle to get control of the ball or to stop an opponent, all outfield players have a kind of value on tackling, with defenders having the best value compared to midfielders and attackers. Goalies don't need a rating on this so this value can be 1. Off course midfielder (and attackers) can have good ratings on this value but then they be a kind of Defensive Midfielder (DM).
- Maybe because outfield players will have some sort value on St, goalies may also have a value on Tk (and also Ps and Sh)
- The chance that a tackle from a defender is succesfull will be higher then that of a midfielder or attacker. The chance that a defender will get a booking is smaller then a midfielder or attacker

Passing
- Passing (Ps), the ability to get the ball where a player wants it, either in a defensive or attacking way, also on this ability all oufield players have a value on passing, where as midfielders have the best value compared to defenders and attackers. Goalies have a small value on this ability.
- The chance that a pass is successfull or for a midfielder is higher than either a defender or attacker.

Shooting
- Shooting (Sh), the ability to take a shot at the goal of the opponent. Again all outfield players have some kind of value on Sh, with an attacker having the edge on both a defender and midfielder (a goalie has a small value).
- The chance that a attacker will score is higher then a defender or midfielder.

Others for consideration
Improvement/ability
- All players will start with 300 points.
- Players can improve/get worse by getting abilitypoints, abilitypoints (positive and negative) can be gained during matches.
- Players can improve in Gab, Tab, Pab and Sab
- When a player reaches a 1000 abilitypoints, the player will get an increase in the value where he reaches the 1000. Off course when a players go through the barrier of 0 (by getting negative abilitypoints) he will get a decrease in this value
- The matchvalues for all players that play on a matchday, needs to be a combination of the primary values with the abilitypoinys, so not merely the primary values will be used. The advantage of using a combination is that a player will use the abilitypoints gained in the match before in the next game. If you use just the primary values, it can take a while before you can use the gaied primary value
- For instance a midfield player has got 18 in Ps and 345 Pab
When only primary values are used it will take another 655 points to get that extra point into the match
When a combination is used it could be 18,345 that will be used into the match

Control
- I think I'd call this dribbling, or something similar - but basically the ability of a player to keep the ball. I think its an essential skill for forwards and midfielders; useful for defenders but not critical. For midfielders, your midfield general is the one with the control who can slow the game down when necessary and speed it up on demand. The forwards would need it for the mazy runs into the box. I guess to some extent tackling could be considered some aspect of this - ie you win the tackles made against you and can keep hold of the ball, so I guess I dont know what I'm saying on this, just so long as the concept of holding the ball is accounted for in some way?
