White Board for ideas

This is an area to put ideas so I don't forget them.

User local time

Since this is a "global game"...we use GMT to identify a "universal time". However, it seems a little impersonal and difficult to translate GMT time sometimes. So...here's an idea: Allow user to set their own local time and use that to compare to GMT to show the user's local times. The idea being to still store all time as GMT in the database, but show on the various pages (deadline, blog, journal, etc) the local time for a given user. Now, when my European friends go off on their "holidays" ever other week we will need to have the ability for a user to change their own local time as needed. Team Tactic Conditionals

I believe I've heard from folks wanting to change conditionals based on the opposition. The problem with that (in my mind) is that if people change tactics based on the opponent, well, its possible they could change every minute right? Do we really want to read 90 minutes of "Memphis changes to stall, Missouri changes to press, etc". One idea could be that if a team wants to change tactics based on an opponent's tactic we allow it, but at minute intervals. For example, the home team could change at minute 5, 15, 25, etc. The away team could change at minute 10, 20, 30, etc. With that in mind is this something people would want to see? This is something I've been thinking about for a while. Given that my MSWL is very weak, getting the tactics right is very important, so being able to adapt to the other team's formation & tactics would be a great help, and I'd love to see it implemented. I'd even put it at the top of my wish-list. Andybushby 12:01, 27 January 2008 (CST)

The only problem I have with this is with games like my play-off against MT last season in MSWL. I even commented (in the Blog?) that Willy might Early Cross, so I play Normal, so he might Stall - so I play Press, so he would Counter - so I play Longball, so he plays Early Cross...

It makes sense in real life because you would more likely Press if you needed to win and the opposition was Stalling.

One thing I would like to see is T= and T<= conditionals especially on substitutions. Steveturner 16:01, 28 January 2008 (CST)

Thought of this the other day: instead of changing team conditionals depending on the opposition tactic, how about changing player conditionals? So if you see your opponent is stalling you can move players forward - if they're pressing you can bring players back behind the ball. Steveturner 16:41, 15 February 2008 (CST)

Auction Viewer

The great Rob Boeck over in EWFL developed an online program for his NFL league where managers could "watch" the player draft as it proceeded and actually step in and make changes (as needed) for their player selections. With our games being world-wide and with the difficulty of getting everyone together at the same time I don't think we can feasibly do that for auctions. However, I think we can borrow Rob's idea and potentially develop an "Auction Viewer" in the same way we have a "Match Viewer". Bids for each lot would come in "randomly" as teams vie for the player/resource and in the end we'd have a winner. It might be kind of fun as managers watch with tension as to whether they'll get "their man". It would also help to highlight prices a bit more as folks see how the bidding goes rather than just a quick glance at the results list. Its not something I would put at the top of my list, but on Auction day, I think it would be a lot of fun. Allansellers 08:43, 27 January 2008 (CST)

Average SL Paranoia

In the early days of MSWL there was a theory that teams "didn't show up" against the top team. Sometimes the reality was the top team wasn't so tough...but there was some "capital" that the top team had and it resulted in team's not bringing their A team against the top team to conserve for another team. The idea here is to store the Average SL used in each match and then put that into some "fun stats" to determine who gets "the best opposition" and who doesn't. Presumably it will highlight that teams are playing their A teams against the Memphis Pharaoahs. Allansellers 11:33, 27 January 2008 (CST)

It might also show that teams are needlessly playing strong lineups against the struggling Barnsley Brewers. Seriously, though, anything which adds "fun stats" is fine by me, although I wouldn't give it a high priority. Andybushby 12:03, 27 January 2008 (CST)

Shot Chance versus Actual Shots

The Math People really get excited in terms of how their teams do relative to the chance of shots and the actual ones. We could track this on a per match basis to determine this sort of thing and see how close the numbers are as the season progresses. Allansellers 11:33, 27 January 2008 (CST)

Another interesting idea. I'm often surprised when Shot Chance regularly doesn't even out over 90 minutes. It would also give Tim more raw data to work with. ;o) Andybushby 12:05, 27 January 2008 (CST)
