Learn the game // The five classes1 of 5
FRFreshman
Year 1 of 5 Year one. Your recruiting class starts here: sign a recruit in season 1 and he joins your team as a freshman in season 2. Can be a flight risk
SOSophomore
Year 2 of 5 Year two. The younger the player, the more room he has to grow. Can be a flight risk
JRJunior
Year 3 of 5 Year three: past the halfway mark of his career. Can be a flight risk
SRSenior
Year 4 of 5 Year four — but not his last. Everyone here plays five seasons. Can be a flight risk
5thFifth-year
Year 5 of 5 Year five, his last. He graduates when the season ends. Never a flight risk
  • Everyone plays five seasons — no redshirts. A roster is 60: twelve of each class.
  • Every offseason the whole roster moves up a class. The fifth-years graduate, and you replace them through recruiting, the portal and walk-ons.
  • A flight risk is a player who may leave your program. Freshmen through seniors can be one; a fifth-year never is.
Advanced — how each class grows
FRFreshman
5 segments a skill The biggest pie of his career.
SOSophomore
4 segments a skill Four segments now, six more still to come.
JRJunior
3 segments a skill A transfer who arrives as a junior has 3 + 2 + 1 = 6 left to build.
SRSenior
2 segments a skill Two segments, and a fifth year still to come.
5thFifth-year
1 segment a skill One segment: enough to finish a 17 into an 18.
  • A skill’s segments are its growth for that season. Training camp fills some for free — more for a higher POT — and you buy the rest with CP. Each season brings a fresh pie; segments still open when it ends are gone.
  • Across a full career that is 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 15 segments a skill — but only for a player who arrives as a freshman. Where he joins you decides how much of him you can build.
Learn the game // POT: potential2 of 5

POT — short for potential — is a player’s growth rating, from 1 to 5. You’ll find it on his player page and in your roster’s POT column.

1Nothing free, ever. He grows only when you coach him.about 1 in 4 players
2A little free growth in his first two years.about 1 in 3
3Free growth in his first three years.about 1 in 4
4Free growth in his first four years.about 1 in 7
5Free growth every year, and the most of it.rare — about 1 in 40
  • POT is not a ceiling. It decides how much of a player’s growth training camp hands him for free each season. The rest you buy with CP — so a high POT is cheap to develop, and a POT 1 costs you the most, but either one can grow.
  • On the recruiting Board you see a range, not the number: more stars, higher range. A 5-star is POT 3–5, and the true number is always inside it. Portal players show their exact POT.
Advanced — what training camp gives each year

POT 532111
POT 421110
POT 311100
POT 211000
POT 100000
  • That’s the free part of each year’s pie (see the five classes). On top of it, some of his skills get one extra free segment in any year the table gives him something.
  • A player who got on the field last season also has a 50% chance of one more free segment in one skill.
  • Board ranges by stars: 1★ POT 1–2 · 2★ 1–3 · 3★ 1–4 · 4★ 2–5 · 5★ 3–5.
Learn the game // CP: coaching points3 of 5

CPcoaching points — is what you spend to make your players better during the season.

60CP every weekEvery program gets 60 coaching points a week, weeks 1 to 12.
+1a raiseOn the Depth Chart, click an open segment of a player’s pie to raise that skill by one.
9 = 9the priceA raise costs the skill’s value now: lifting a 9 costs 9 CP, a 17 costs 17.
it landsThe raise lands after that week’s game.
  • Busy week? Your staff has it. Every week your staff drafts a plan and it goes ahead unless you change it — doing nothing never wastes your points.
  • Only 15 CP carries over to the next week; anything above that is lost.
  • One raise per player per week, only on a skill with an open segment (see the five classes), and no skill goes past 20.
Advanced — getting the most out of CP
  • Cheap raises go further. The price is the skill’s value today, so 60 CP buys six raises at 10 but only four at 15. Young and low-rated players are where CP stretches.
  • Free first, then CP. Training camp fills part of every pie for free — how much depends on POT — and CP buys the segments that are left.
  • Changed your mind? Click the segment again before the week is played and the CP comes back.
  • The staff plan spends by your program’s philosophy — HOLES, YOUTH, STARS or DEEP. Any order of your own replaces the staff’s for that week.
  • After week 12 coaching stops for the year: no raises in December, and at most 15 CP carries into next season, when it starts again at 60 a week.
Learn the game // The seven skills4 of 5

Every player has seven skills, each rated 1 to 20. Which ones matter depends on his position.

SPDSpeedQuickness and straight-line speed: getting open, breaking away, chasing down.
STRStrengthPushing, holding ground, running through contact — and the arm on a passer, the leg on a kicker.
HNDHandsCatching, holding on to the ball, taking it away.
ACCAccuracyThe aim of a throw or a kick.
BLKBlockingBlocking technique: hands, leverage, staying on his man.
TKLTacklingBringing the ball carrier down.
AWRAwarenessReading the play: protection calls, coverage, jumping a route.
  • A skill that doesn’t matter at his position shows as a dot. The game never uses it there, and you can’t spend CP on it.
  • A few skills are core at each position — a quarterback lives on strength, accuracy and awareness; a receiver on speed and hands. The depth chart ranks players mostly on those.

  • Strength doubles as a passer’s arm and a kicker’s leg, which is why it counts for quarterbacks, kickers and punters.
Learn the game // RP: recruiting points5 of 5

RPrecruiting points — is how you add players: on the recruiting Board in the fall, in the transfer portal in December, and on Signing Day.

140RP every weekEvery program gets 140 RP a week, paid at the start of the week.
1,000twice a seasonThe Sponsor pays 1,000 at the start of the season; Concessions pays 1,000 more in week 13, for December.
9commit a weekNine recruits commit every week, weeks 2 to 12. Each one’s commit week is public.
Bidto sign himHost his official visit the week before he commits, then put in a sealed bid at or above his minimum.
  • The highest bid wins — and only the winner pays. Everyone who lost gets their bid back. The visit fee is the only thing you can lose.
  • You’ll see his stars and a POT range, not his exact POT. Sign him and he joins you as a freshman next season (see the five classes).
  • Where: Recruiting → Entry to host visits and bid, All Recruits for the whole Board, and your RP Ledger for every point in and out.

  • To win him you need all four: you hosted his visit, your bid is at least his minimum, you can pay it (a bid only counts up to your balance), and you have room at his position next season. Ties go to the team with the worse record. If nobody qualifies, he’s gone.
  • Bids are secret, pursuit is public. Everyone can see which programs hosted a visit; nobody can see what they bid.
  • Other income: 5 RP for each post on the Wall, up to 40 a week, and 100 for winning a bowl.
  • When recruiting closes after Signing Day, up to 2,000 RP carries into next season; anything above that is lost — so spend it or watch it burn.

My page says I will be losing 45CPs due to training up a lad, but I have checked and I am not training up any. I did press a couple to see figures changing but I went back and claimed them again. Help?
Sheridan

@DIAM - Roger can you tell me what device you are using and I'll see if there's a fix. I'm not seeing this one but I do occasionally see lags on other things if I'm moving fast to the right...then back to look at something.
Dundee
Dundee1h HTCH 26 - HYDE 59
During the 1st drive the prediction was in the high 60s for Hyde, and over 74% after they scored first. A closer game might have brought the numbers closer - a nice point about the game I felt. Can't say I noticed the 22 to 23 at the 3rd quarter, but I was looking at the game. If so, maybe a slight burp..

@HTCH - Score number was the font playing around a bit. Fixed now. 0 yard return on a punt is typically a fair catch (which happens 30-40% of the time apparently...I had to look that up).
Sheridan

@MINO - Thanks for mentioning the injury. It might depend on how fast/slow you have the speed set to but my intent there was to leave it on the screen for a bit with injuries...
Dundee
Dundee2h DUND 34 - MARQ 18
MMM - 12 penalties, 6 fumbles and 5 turnovers made it seem a game that didn't flow, but guessing the random element means my next game might be a clean affair. I like the time outs (and the ambulance).
Sheridan

@GALE - Mike you are right on those field goal kicks...that goalpost/football is very tricky to get right. 😀 I'll get back to that eventually...

Right. It seems to only be happening when the Away team has possession and lasts until the Home team take the ball. It seems fine when the Home team has the ball.

Same thing after the HT kick off. It lasted until there ball was turned over.

Yeah same thing happened on Play 96. It seems to last for a few plays

It happened again when there was afield goal attempt a bit later, so I wonder whether it's just when possession changes that it lags momentarily?

Play 30. The "has the ball icon" stay lit for both teams. It stopped when I paused it after a bout 5 plays, and when I scrubbed back it was fine.
