Well now (Session 9)
Posted by Colin Scott on Wednesday, Jul. 29th, 2020 at 10:05 PM

Mixed bag in session 8. Home win, squeak a 1-0, followed by a tight 0-1 defeat away to PA. Rob needed all his home bonus and 10 GPP extra to match our attacks and it just came down to luck on the day with PA getting more shots on target. It cuts the lead at the top to 4 points but no need to hit the panic button just yet.

Then the youth Cup. I predicted a 2-1 win and I feel CHF deserved a goal but the main thing is getting through, so job done there. The downside is SU now face the best team left in the competition. No offence to the other two semifinalists but PNE are some team. The 8 youth players pick themselves and it's fairly obvious how the two teams will lineup there. Then you just need to add the same 3 guys that Ian has picked in the previous 3 rounds, GK, MF captain and a big FW, and you realise that no matter how I set out my stall SU can not complete with those numbers. Going out at this stage is no embarrassment though. SU were bottom of the heap in terms of T11 back at session 1. Still not much above that even now but I intend to put out my best team and cross my fingers.

So we got lucky in the Youth Cup semi and now face fellow Div 2 team Leeds in the final. It will be a close call and, I won't lie, I have changed my lineup about 6 times so far and it's only Tuesday! There are only 3 non-youth players to pick - how difficult can it be?

In other news, 4 points clear of PA for the league title - calm down, I know it's only Div 2 but at first time of asking....? I have surprised myself with that. Genuinely thought I would be in a relegation dogfight. So, instead I just need one win and then I can put my feet up and prepare for the relegation dogfight in Div 1. I need a lie down.

Glad to see you enjoying it Colin but beware. Once Olmec spots you on his radar you'll be doomed.
