![]() | Proposal: Non-League Teams During Cup Competitions Posted by |
Would it perhaps make sense to ALWAYS schedule the two non-league sides (i.e. Blyth and Coventry) to play versus each other in the first round of all cup competitions? That way fewer teams "benefit" from drawing one of these perennial under-developed squads?
Just a thought I wanted to discuss.

No that's the love of non league teams playing higher level teams, the chance of an upset is a great benefit, teams in the past have come unstuck.

It's always interesting when the Non-league sides beat one of the human managers. It's happened to me before - you take the match for granted and put out a weaker side, and next thing you know, you find yourself on the losing end to Olmec.

I thought further on this subject after the post and realized one significant flaw associated to this proposal:
While the idea would reduce the number of teams that face off against a non-league side overall, it would guarantee a non-league team would always advance to the second round of cup competitions like the FA Cup or Youth Cup. The disadvantage with that being a human team would face a "weaker" opponent with a much stronger chance his team moves on to the quaterfinal round.
Though I still believe a strong case can be made for this proposal on the surface, the fact that a non-league team would always advance to the second round of each cup each season is a far greater problem.
How do I undo my forum entry and poll?

No need, Brian, it's started a discussion. How about we make the non-league sides stronger, so that they're not such a cakewalk?

Yes I agree with that thought Andy, I am on the waiting list for united 2 and I would be than happy to submit a line up for a non league team should it have any matches that week, the same could be done here?

I guess I could have used a "always schedule a non-league team against Dorchester in every cup" choice? :-)
I am definitely open to a rethink on the makeup of the non-league sides. Its been a manual thing I have to do each season and is kind of annoying. I'd love someone to take the reigns and tell me "HERE" is what the age, position, sl of each non league team should be (and they can even be distinct although I typically make them VERY similar in terms of T-11/16). Again, I'd love some help in this area.

I'll be happy to help out with the two NL sides, Al. Will email you once I have put something together.

Sounds like a great idea. Maybe one with good DF and MF and capable of playing the offside trap or not, and the other with good FW and MF, so also capable of playing the offside trap? Making them distinct and a little more challenging than is currently the case.

If you take them out you need to give byes to 2 teams - leave it alone - by excluding them its almost like seeding and nobody wants that.
And we don't want anybody picking lineups for the NL teams - its the luck of the draw if you get one of them - what next? Take them out of the AP Cup too?

Sorry - I should have re-read the proposal - I thought it was to exclude them from the Cups.
However I still believe we should change nothing and leave the computer picking their teams - its a bonus to be drawn against one - doesn't happen often enough against WES though....
