Please Provide Quincy A Roster Building Audit (Session 7)
Posted by Allan Sellers on Wednesday, Oct. 18th, 2023 at 9:49 PM

I will periodically try to give out advice to other coaches (as many of you do) to help them learn the game.  It is time to help me.

We are at the halfway point (6 sessions down and 6 to go)

Take a look at my roster and tell me what you would have done differently.  I don't need any pat on the back (it all looks great Al) type stuff.

No need to do all positions if you don't have time, pick one.  Did I CP wrong?  Should I have more XPs by now?  You tell me.

Also, if you want this kind of audit do a post like this for your own team and be open to criticism.  We only improve with feedback.

One thing I would do is try and get out of both the two L, S and RS all being 1 age apart. It's OK that L + S has all 4 ages but RS  means you'll be CPing a Fr and So at the same time if both are 4*/5*. I think that is too expensive.

RS needs all 4 skills

S needs 4 and maybe 5 if you think ATK is important. I would want these having the 4 ages between them.

Libero depends on your tactics (and you've suggested something to me what your thinking is) so having a Fr/So combination might not be too prohibitive.

More to come.

It's all looks great All! :).

No, just kidding, but I think I should have done the same things with many players, with only little tweeks. For example, Paul Cockburn, you have trained him 2 times ATT (off course) and 1 time BLK, SRV, RCV. Ik think I should give him 2 times RCV after the 2 times ATT, because RCV is more important for an OH than BLK and SRV.

Looking at your squad I was realising I don't know the main difference between RCV and DEF. Is RCV only after a serve and DEF at the rest of the game?

Yes, Pierre. Only liberos and outside hitters have RCV and only those receive the serve and try to pass to the setter. Everyone has DEF which is used to try and dig the attack, but only when the players are in the back row in TMVL (#1, #5 and #6).

I basically agree about Cockburn - SRV before BLK. My Fr OH has 35 XP as he's played more but I think he started out better than Cockburn so less of a burden. Cockburn hasn't won a game yet but Samuel has 7 wins so far.

I also think I'd only have 1 BLK on Palazzo and used the CP on someone else if possible.

However I try to make sure I have one less coaching spot needed than sessions to play for everyone. So if you want to use 6 slots on your MB make sure you have 7 sessions to go and not 6 just in case you forget one session.

Ok, well here is my (1 trophy πŸ†) advice for Al (17 million trophies and counting πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†)....

I think Pierre and Steve are both right to flag Cockburn as the interesting player, although I've reached a different conclusion.

I've not bothered to crunch the numbers but I'm going to assume that, just like everyone else, Quincy won't have enough CPs to coach everyone they want to, to the level they want to. In which case there are some hard choices to make.

For me, rather than salami slicing across the board, this would have meant consigning Cockburn to a place on the bench for his entire career and investing elsewhere the 36 CPs spent to date, the 40-50 still to spend this season, the potential lost CPs from having to get his XP up to around 55, and the costs he would have incurred in his So and Ju years to raise him to a slightly above average rating.

I do agree that it would be a shame to waste Cockburn's B potential, but a fully coached Rossi would be a good enough stop gap next season while Haffner (potential A or A-) gets up to speed - and eats up a lot of CPs in the process. I wonder whether in practice Al will have enough CPs to spend on both Haffner and Cockburn next season aswell as the the rest of the squad.

You could make the same argument for Palazzola at MB, but he costs so much less to bring up to speed and Quincy may not be going for a 5* MB for next season so maybe it's not a problem.
