The Season That Was. (Session 13)
Posted by Vick Hall on Wednesday, May. 10th, 2023 at 8:53 PM

Well what a truly fantastic season this was for our rebuilding Shrimps. Who could have thought we could do this good with only a three star walk on Setter this year playing all our big games. Give Ginger his due he played pretty well and did not want to let the side down. Possibly inspired by the players around him, he didn´t. Ginger McCabe will likely feature for the Shrimps next year aswell until our new setter signings in Van Buren and Taylor get up to speed. We did not really want to sign them both, but after the Gargoyles put in a late bid for Van Buren we could not risk not picking up Taylor as Setter in case he was all we could get. As it turned out the Gargoyles underbid and we ended up with our first choice Van Buren after all. With Peters retiring it was also nice to get a new decent Libero in Fernandez aswell as back up to Stefanidis who will be top choice for next year.

As for the season we were pleased to do well in the WGM Cup reaching the quarter finals before being blown away by the Scarecrows in a super performance by them. The team then had a little cathing up to do in the PAC8 Conference, which they did by digging in with some gritty performances. The icing on the cake though was the National Championship win over the Hogs. The Shrimp fans will certainly not forget a memorable 3-1 win and having beaten Tucson, Columbia and Baton to reach the final the team can be proud they won the trophy the hard way with no easy games. Not sure if we can keep this kind of performace up next year, but we will give it a go!

Congratulations on a superb season Vick, with a great collection of scalps on the way to what I'm sure will be the first of many National Championships.

Thanks for the kind words. We are sure the Peas will be upholding the honour of the greens next year too!
