We finally beat St Charles (Session 6)
Posted by Steve Turner on Monday, Dec. 27th, 2021 at 3:01 PM

There is no team vs team history so I don't know for sure if this is true but I believe Christmas Day was the first time we've beated the Scarecrows. We came close earlier this season in a 5th set 15-10 loss. Overall we were 2 points better in player ratings with our L and OHs better than theirs but their S and MBs better than ours. That hasn't really changed and this time we were 2 points worse off. It was a very close game, again going to 5 sets where we prevailed 15-13 in the 5th.

I'm not sure why we won apart from the obvious random numbers. Their Attack was quite a bit better than ours overall but per set we were a little better in sets 1,2 and 5 and them a little better in set 4. They were massively better (759 to 444)  in set 3 which probably skews the overall stats. Our serving was better, as expected with 9 aces to 3, only 8 errors to their 13 and a .926 to .874 advantage. They were better defensively. We blocked more with 25 to 14 and made no errors to their 4. Our serve receive was only marginally better but good enough for our setter.

In our other games we eased past New Orleans and Schenectady easily as neither brought strong teams and we lost 3-1 away at Teutopolis, the game we decided to try to win. Overall we are doing well still in the WGM and TVML competitions and closing in on the top spots in the Conference and Nationals.

We now have a strange session with 2 away games at Quincy and 2 home games against San Diego.
