A smooth session 5 (Session 6)
Posted by Steve Turner on Tuesday, May. 10th, 2022 at 11:58 AM

Four games, four wins and everything went perfectly in the end.

Pekin: I looked at their T7 and realised I had to play quite strong just in case. It turned out this was my strongest squad of the day though it wasn't necessary in the end. However if we'd dropped a single set we wouldn't have #1 seeding the the conference tournament.

Ames: I think we played our weakest lineup here. J juggled this game and the Baton Rouge one a lot. I knew we had enough if Colin didn't play T7 but he did and almost pulled off a shock win. We were lucky in that Ames dominated us in every position apart from Right Side? How did we win? Well apart from Olmec's love for me I'm going to post elsewhere about this game.

Baton Rouge: Apart from bragging rights I wasn't too concerned about this game. If Mike played T7 we'd lose. If he played B7 we'd win. In the end we both went for B rated teams but we just had the edge.

Starkville: This was tougher than expected and Mike's team pushed us all the way. In the same way we were lucky against Ames we were unlucky here. But not unlucky enough to lose. We are now the top seed in the WGM but I'm not fooled by that with the Mules and Scarecrows in the #1 box. But at least we have home court advantage.

This next weekend will be tough as I want both the WGM and the Tournament so it looks like relatively weak lineups for the non-con and they are both tricky games against Carlsbad and Antioch. No chance of another 4-0.

Nicely done Steve!  The Tomatoes had to find ways to win in a couple of those cinco-setters and they did!

Great matches from Ames and Starkville to push them hard this past session.

Rob probably won't remember some comments about Antioch being easy that the Columbia coach mentioned last season.  Surely he won't remember right?  :-)

Steve, I thought for a minute or two that we were gonna pull off the unthinkable.
