Theme Music
Posted by Kevin Martin on Tuesday, Nov. 1st, 2011 at 5:43 PM

In the spirit of MSWL United 2 (U2) kicking off soon, which song by U2 do you anticipate will be an appropriate theme for the inaugural season?  Suggestions, listed in order of good to bad:

1. Even Better Than the Real Thing

2. Magnificent

3. Sweetest Thing

4. Smile

5. One Step Closer

6. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

7. Numb

8. Lemon

Any other suggestions?

We are the Champions by Queen, of coursey.

Mark Stretch on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd, 2011 at 7:11 PM

it's U2 songs, Mark...please stick with the program, sir.

Must have missed that bit - guess I'd better go with Beautiful Day

Mark Stretch on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd, 2011 at 8:38 PM

I was tempted to ask who U2 were...

But, with the help of Google, I suggest:

>>"So Cruel" for those of a pessimistic nature.

>>"Running to Stand Still" for those who are slightly less pessimistic; and

>>"Sweetest Thing" for those who expect to taste success.

Incidentally, I would have backed Mark's choice if U2 had written it!

I can think of varous paraphrases to the tune of Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of - most likely for me being Stuck With Players I Want To Get Rid Of.

Dave Gittins on Saturday, Nov. 5th, 2011 at 2:59 AM

It appears to me that U2 are a favoured band within Olmec as a whole....I'm afraid I'll pass on this one as I'm not a fan (cue the chorus of boos!)

Craig Bucknall on Saturday, Nov. 5th, 2011 at 8:38 PM

I'm not a real big U2 fan myself either...

Rob Peterson on Sunday, Nov. 6th, 2011 at 3:17 AM

I have plenty of bands I prefer over Bono & Co. as well.  Just couldn't resist the United 2 - U2 name play.

Kevin Martin on Monday, Nov. 7th, 2011 at 7:17 PM

I think you've got the wrong band.

As Ted Rogers might have put it, we're going to play in MSLW United 2. Or you might say, MSLW United MSLW United.

If we abbreviate that, we get MuMu....we're clearly All Bound For MuMu Land (KLF with Tammy Wynette, Justified and Ancient)

Ted Rogers and his cryptic clues, The KLF and their ice-cream vans, 'tis truly the stuff of nightmares - bring back Bono, all is (almost) forgiven!

Dave Gittins on Tuesday, Nov. 8th, 2011 at 1:34 AM

Even though I am from the Emerald Isle, I never really got U2. They just seemed to pass me by. Sorry!

Carl Oakes on Saturday, Nov. 12th, 2011 at 10:51 AM

Beautiful Day by U2 has been used in TV programmes showing football in this country, so that seems like the obvious answer to me.

Andy Bate on Saturday, Nov. 12th, 2011 at 5:52 PM

Pity no one from Australia or New Zealand seem to be playing here as they could choose Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Steve Turner on Monday, Nov. 14th, 2011 at 3:23 PM

I'm not sure what order the Cup final games are played but one of them is number 40.
