Orders Page Update- Please provide feedback
Posted by Allan Sellers on Friday, Sep. 3rd, 2021 at 7:43 PM

The image you see here shows a 4-match example.

There are two additions:

1) Effective grade (skills + FIT)

2) The CP used for a given skill for this season.

For #2 it works like this per skill:

Year # Times CP'd
Fr 3
So 2
Jr 1
Sr 0

So a Freshman can be CP'd up to 3 times per skill, but a Senior can NEVER have a skill raised.

So 1/3 means a freshman has had that skill raised 1 of a maximum of 3 times.  In addition it indicated the freshman could have that skill raised 1 more time.

Likewise a 0/1 means a junior hasn't had the skill raised but they could have it raised 1 time this season.

Oh and don't forget to save those XPs to use.

Anyway, the Forum question here is...is this approach helpful?  If so I will add it to the website to be used with session 4.

I LOVE the CP addition Al!

One suggestion I would have is maybe to list out the effect grade in the lineup section? I'm envisioning in my head something that shows the variance from T7. So like below the lineup grid at the bottom, have T7 effective grade on the left, and then under each match have the effective grade lineup that was selected in one column, and then a 2nd column that shows the variance from T7?

I think it's a great addition though looks ugly. Saves me having to go back t my hme page.

As for Rob's second post - whoosh!!

Steve Turner on Saturday, Sep. 4th, 2021 at 7:05 AM

Thanks for the feedback so far Rob and Steve.

I love the info and I agree with Steve that it looks ugly!  :-)

Does anyone have other ideas on how to present this to make it look less busy?  Is there something we could do visually to represent the CP numbers without the full "fraction"?  I'd love to hear ideas.

Think of like a pie chart maybe (essentially just a circle).  Open circle if no CP used.  And then varying degrees of colored in circle depending on freshman, sophomore, junior CP usage.  Like colored in circle if fully CP'd.  Half colored in if 1 of 2 CP'd for a sophomore.  1/3 colored in if 1 of 3 CP'd for freshman.

Again, tossing out ideas as all the numbers together do get ugly (I couldn't think of the word when I did this last night but Steve did capture it) and conflict with readability.  At the same time they do prevent the need to look at the roster page.

Rob: Can you email an example (maybe worked up in word or excel) with your ideas?

Steve: what do you mean by "whoosh!!".  Is that a good thing?

I like that I dont need to look at my homepage to see what I have trained earlier.

I think circles or pies would be nicer.

Maybe it can be one, two or three small circles when trined instead of half and third filled?

The circles would then need to be smaller.

Here is a sample. Focus more on the circles than the context of the player. I have circles for:
- 0 CP used,
- 1 of 3 possible CP used,
- 1 of 2 possible CP used,
- 2 of 3 possible CP used
- and a colored circle if all CP are used for this skill

Whoosh is the sound of something going right over your head rather than in it.

Steve Turner on Saturday, Sep. 4th, 2021 at 6:25 PM

Thanks for the feedback Christer!

Steve: Okay, I thought it was maybe that, but wanted to ask.   :-)

Orders page is updated for Session 4.  Please add any feedback/questions/issues you spot as you use it.

The changes made were primarily cosmetic.

Al, I haven't had time to mock you up something, but I'll get to it this week for sure.

It's gorgeous!

Like circles for for training levels

Matt White on Friday, Sep. 17th, 2021 at 4:06 PM

Wasn't sure I'd like the circles at first, breaking up the lines.  After two sessions, I must admit to being wrong.  Not nearly as intrusive as I feared, and highly intuitive to see the training points as mini-pie charts without having fractions staring us in the face.  Maybe it's just personal preference after all: I prefer pie to doing fractions.
Also appreciate the XP column.  Very easy to reference in planning, and having them grouped together by position lets us see if we need to squeeze an extra match for the Fr/So over the Jr/Sr to be able to get another skill point coached up this offseason.
Very nice adjustments without harming functionality at all.
Well done to the planners, suggestion-makers, and programmers all around.
