Max RP Spend in Recruiting Sessions (POLL)
Posted by Allan Sellers on Tuesday, Apr. 7th, 2026 at 12:07 AM

One of the things about being a commish is that I hate it when things go wrong for another manager that I benefit from.  It sucks.   But when its also part of the setup/rules I know I shouldn't change it (and wouldn't if I wasn't the one involved).  Still its annoying (in this case more for another coach than me).  I won't mention names.   You can figure it out if you want to.

Anyway...

The current setup for recruiting is this:

There's a 2,000 RP limit for recruiting each session.  You can change it eacg session.  But things can happen like accidentally changing it or forgetting its there.

I went through the database for this season (not prior seasons) and no one has changed that 2,000 RP max per session limit this season.  So when I see that I wonder if its really necessary?

Should this be removed?  Should we keep the option there?  I know we all like options when we need them, at the same time is it more of a potential negative than a positive?   I think one time a coach accidentally changed it to a lower number (or maybe tabbed and it became a letter or something and was saved to ZERO making the bid to be 0.).

I think its useful in U1/U2.  But maybe not as much here.

Thoughts?

This was a photo I took from one of Max's games last year.  The parents posted comments like:

- Sometimes you just gotta floss

- I say the attacker gets 2 kills for this

Very hateful parents...haha

There is no need to change anything.

The limit protects you from "surprise" bankruptcy - and can be easily adjusted if necessary.

I don’t understand the point of changing this rule. It would never occur to me to spend 2000 RP on a young player who can’t even blow his nose!

(That said, I don’t have enough experience to know whether it’s a good thing or a bad one.)

I think there is value in having the option available to limit the max spent, as a way of ensuring you have RP leftover for a bid next session if a win this session came at a higher price than hoped.  It seems to only come into play when there are multiple recruits being sought in a session, however that's exactly why I would want it.  I can envision getting a 4* or 5* player early, and have my sights set on a key player next session too.  The 3* guy I'm bidding on would be a bonus, however I would want to cap the RP spent to a set amount and if he comes under that, great.  If not, I'm okay with saving RP for next session.

By way of options if a change is considered:

Raise the default to 3000 instead.  If you didn't change it, you didn't need to, and that would cover almost any 2-player bid session.  People who like the 2000 limit can make a point of amending it for themselves each session.

Could the limit be optional?  Like a checkbox to turn it on, just like the conditional bids can turn "on" or "off" a later auction bid based on an earlier win?

A few seasons ago I did the same thing as Alton - two purchases planned but lost the second because I forgot the limit existed. Last season I benefited as Al did by paying a few hundred RP less than I should for a player because someone else (I think it was Pierre) had his bid restricted to 2,000 because he forgot the limit existed.  So I feel like I've seen both sides of the coin.

On balance, I can't see it's needed. If you accidentally bid 10,000 RP on a player you don't actually pay 10,000, it's still the second bid + 1. So I'm not sure it makes any difference when it comes to single bids.

I can absolutely see Kevin's argument that this matters for multiple bids but I'd be interested if anyone has actually used the RP limit in this way or whether it's just a theoretical situation.

What is RP?
