First off, I never win anything so please play your C-teams against me...
If you have some tips please add them here...
My tip is (and I recommend this for ALL session 1 Barmy the Beaver opposition)....
If you sit a player in session 1 and CP them for CP AND FIT, they can go from an Age I/10 FIT 0 player to an Age I/11 FIT 2 player and play at 3 SL higher for session 2. What I like about this game is that every "point" counts, so keeping your players FIT is key.
That's important when you play Dr. Death, aka Dave Dowson, aka the Tonbridge "Angels" this season...Dave measures wins and losses by which team received the most injuries...

There is no prohibition against playing youth players out of position as in most Olmec leagues. So if you're willing to take the -2 SL penalty, you can play a youth Sw at Df and play an older, better Sw instead. You'll give up a few more scoring chances, yet have a better chance of stopping them. As youth start at Fit 2, you're losing the Fitness bonus and they'll play at their regular SL if they haven't been injured. If desperate to find a way for youth playing time without killing chances of getting a win or draw, it's an option to consider.
