I'm enjoying the new Captain rules* but I wonder whether we had considered there impact on penalty taking. Should the Captain's extra levels count as SL when it comes to taking a penalty? It seems a large bonus to me, so I'd be happy to see them ignored when determining who should take penalties and what SL the penalty taker is for determining the chance of success. Assuming this is easy for Al to program, what do others think?
* To harp on about age restrictions on Captains, it seems cheap to me to have an Age II Captain, play him in all four games in a session, for a twl SL bonus each game, then just spend a mere 2CP to keep his fitness where it was at the start of the session. But maybe I'd be doing the same if I'd chosen an Age III Captain? Of course, I don't often coach Age III players, so that would mean difficult decisions to be made, but an Age II SL 13 (or 14 if you're lucky) player is likely to be made Captain at most clubs in most seasons, I'd have thought.

I think this is a good point Andy. The captain's bonus is reflective of what he adds to the team on the field of play. A penalty shot is a personal, one-on-one, unfair attack on level-headed goalkeepers. (Guess what position I play??) With that in mind, I don't think the bonus should be added for PK purposes.

You also mention Age II players being able to play 4 matches in a session and staying at the same level FIT with some CP use... that's not true for 4 games - that is only true for 3 games. After the 3rd game, a non-GK player loses 1 FIT point, so using the CP to counter that is wise. After the 4th game, another FIT point is lost, which cannot be recovered through CP that session.

Rob, I assumed that an outfield player only lost 1 FIT for playing 3 or more games. The rules state he loses the 1 FIT after the 3rd match but not that he loses another after the 4th.

Yeah, he plays the fourth match at -1 Fit, but then recovers that fit for the next session if you coach fitness.

Sonofa! You guys are correct. I've been going under the assumption all along that you lose another FIT point after the 4th match... I'll play some of my star players in 3 matches and coach him to keep the fitness up... Had I known I could play them in all 4 matches, I might do things COMPLETELY different!

It's a cheap option, and your thoughts should maybe make it into the rules, since then you have to plan things more carefully.

Every once and a while, Steve, good teams will see 4-game sessions on their schedules. Maybe next season for you?
