This season I have five age IV players and next season I'll want to convert four of them to BRB (this makes room for 4 SBYs for a start).
One of them is a IV/6 and worth 120k to the non-league pre session 8.
Or I keep him for the 3 CP he'll earn me in the last 3 sessions and then he retires (1 CP = 40k)
Or I spend 7 CP so he'll can be converted next season and the IV/12 I have can be sold for 300k pre session 8 this season costing another 3 CP (1 CP = 30k)
Or I spend 7 CP and age the IV/12 to V/7 who is sold for 100k (1 CP = 25k)
I would probably get rid of all 5 anyway to make room for an auction buy next season.
So it's a choice of; earn 3 CP, or lose them but get 120k, or spend/lose 10 CP for 300k, or spend 4 CP (spend 7, earn 3) for 100k.

Don't forget that age V players can be converted to backroom boys. An age V is worth a lot more than their non-league sale total. A V/2 player is worthless by the sale formula, yet often worth ~200k at trade for a team needing a BRB.
And in reply, yes. How much a CP is worth seems to be entirely determined by who it is being spent on and, more importantly, how important that player is to your team goals. If you are planning on buying a T11 player next season at auction, take the cash and run. If planning on keeping them instead, you can always change your mind up until the session 8 deadline. If you had lots of injuries and had to spend more CP on Fit than planned/accounted for, then you might keep them. If you were lucky and escaped the season relatively unharmed, then you might not have any need for the extra 3-6 CP and can merrily sell off dead roster weight.
