![]() | New Evil Empire Member? Posted by |
As you know Ian (Kendal), Dave Dohm (AFC Wimbledon), and Alon (Shepshed) are card-carrying members of the Evil Empire.
They were given this membership mostly because they win a lot. It is also due to how they seem to win matches they shouldn't all too often.
Ian had no idea what he was doing in season 1. I gave him a couple of strategy tips and now he's way better than me (why aren't I better?).
Dave Dohm spends all his time crying crocodile tears, complaining about how everyone is out to get him, and that every season is a rebuilding season (where he still wins trophies) and nonsense like that.
Alon just robotically wins everything.
HOWEVER...
In U2 there are three managers who are under consideration for Evil Empire Membership:
Ilkeston (Steve Turner)
I post a lot about how my good friend Steve Turner is absolutely loved by Olmec. Steve spends a lot of his time telling you on the occasions when he rarely loses how he had the numbers and should have won. On the flip side of that when he wins (when the numbers say he shouldn't have) there is no Steve Turner statistical analysis. There's often just a simple:
:-)
He knows Olmec loves him.
York City (James Tucker)
Currently tied with Ilkeston atop the 1st Division, JT's side have been solid the past few seasons. They finished 2nd in the past two 1st division tables as well as having won the Youth Cup 2 of the past 3 seasons (and the one they didn't they were in the final).
Halifax Town (Vick Hall)
Vick sits at #3 all-time in U2 coaching wins. His teams are perennially in the running for the FA Cup (5 titles; won two seasons ago; semis last season; in the semis this season. All he does is win.
Should one of these managers be given membership into the Evil Empire?

Excellent poll! Steve's constant haranguing of the OLMEC is nearful enough to make the EE on that alone.. I'd also like to do a write-in for Simon, he has some of the key qualities -- his teams are always successful (both U1 and U2), and he is always truly dumbstruck/incredulous when luck breaks against him. Perhaps EE in junior standing for now: :)

Steve's probably the 'evilest' of Div 2 in the past 10 seasons. He's only spent 4 of those in Div 1. Without consistent league dominance, it's hard to promote to being as evil as the Big Three.
Similarly, Vick is a nasty draw in any competition, yet just made it back to Div 1 after being down in Div 3 just a few (2?) seasons back. Lots of movement, and a variety of results in various outings.
That leaves James. Hasn't finished worse than 5th in Div 1 in 6 seasons. Has been in at least one Cup final every season for the past 5+ as well, with multiple league or cup championships. Has un-seated the usual expectations of an "Alon, Ian or Dave" will win the league, it's just a question of the final order in the past few seasons. On one hand, it's good to see things being shaken up. On the other, exactly how much of his soul did he sell to Olmec to pull this off? Has anyone else noted a stony gaze or compassionless, gravelly mocking of the weaker sides he clearly "rolls over" like a stone would? It makes one wonder...

I'm with you C-Ball...and yes Compo should be in this conversation.
A Tour-de-Force analysis by Mr. Martin as always!

What do I need to do to join the good guys?
As an aside watch Colin Scott in U1 ,a definate evil empire candidate

I love this post Alon!
I think a start might be to provide a Forum post called: "3 Tips From the Evil Empire".
You can then give us struggling managers three pro tips to help us succeed.
That type of "man of the people" approach might give you a chance to get your Evil Empire Card taken away.
Agreed on U1 - Colin.

How you see yourself :- A Matinee idol breaking-up the hegemony of the evil empire. More Luke Skywalker than Darth Vader
How others see you: Stony compasionless gaze slaying the weak.
I guess if the hat fits then happy to join the empire, what are the rules or is this like Fight Club? Tempted on any deals on the soul to not finish as a runner-up this time round.

I had to go with Vic. We've had a good rivalry all along, and he always seems to get the best of me.

heh, I'm sure on many occassion you have only faced my youth side in matches. If the youth teams still won then this was in the hands of almighty Olmec. Halifax are not evil and aspise to the altruism of MSWL2.

Recent results do seem to suggest however, that we may be on the verge of a Golden Dawn. The old unholy trinity are beginning to lock a bit rusty and tarnished. Ilkeston, York and Halifax are the future of this new Golden Age.

We should call these three the "Little Evils" or the "Little Evil Wannabees."
