Hi guys,
I hope you all enjoyed the season!
Thanks to Dave Dohm for coming up with the finances.
Quite an exciting finish to the 1st Division this season.
Title Holders Forest Green looked strong early as they led through the first 9 league games. However a 6-1 loss at Halifax Town was a blow that Andy's club never seemed to recover from in the 10th match and they wound up 6th.
My Fighting Beavers took over 1st in the 10th league match and then just tried to hang on…which worked well through session 9…but then disaster hit in session 10. After getting a charitable PK goal against the non-aggressive Droylsden side, it looked like we'd hold onto 1st at least until the final league match. But in injury time Dave's club were awarded a PK and earned the draw. We never recovered.
That meant there would be some theatrics going into the final match. Essentially it was Kendal and Evesham playing for the title…Evesham went up early on our Harrogate en route to a 5-nil bloodbath win over our declining Beavers.
That put Mr. Stretch's side in first with Kendal and Halifax playing to a draw.
In minute 68, Ian's Reid scored what proved to be the championship goal as Kendal went ahead 1-0 and eventually got a late PK to win 2-0. The win gave Ian his 3rd U2 League title. Congratulations Ian.
For those of you watching on the Viewer (especially Mark and Ian) it must have made for an interesting time as the Live Table was updated. :-)
Burton Albion and Marine FC won the 2nd and 3rd Divisions. Congratulations to James and Kevin.
Clevedon Town led by Jake Hanny won the AP Cup with a 4-3 win in PKs over C-Ball's Luton Town. It is Jake's first title in either league. Congratulations Jake!
In a battle of top managers, Andy and Dave Dohm squared off in the FA Cup Final. This game needed extra time and a shootout to be decided. Even though the Rovers had no attacks in regulation or extra time (AFC WImbledon had 7), justice was done in the PK Shootout as Forest Green won 4-1 in Pks to repeat as the FA Cup Champion (the Rovers had a more comfortable outing in the final last season with a 3-nil win over the Fighting Beavers).
Kevin's Marine FC took home the FA Shield with a 2-1 win over James White's Burton Albion. These same two teams met in last seasons FA Shield with Burton Albion winning that one 1-nil.
After the Youth Cup Final Graham Wilkes had to get out his chequebook to pay for a trophy cabinet as his Chasetown FC defeated Dave Dohm and AFC Wimbledon 3-2.
Congratulations to the winners.
Took the family to Florida the past week so I've been a little quiet. We've had a great time (Kennedy Space Center, Swamp Tour, 5 baseball games, some Cardinals autographs like David Freese and Adam Wainwright...a lot of fun).
I'll start gearing up for the next season of U1 in about a month. If you haven't heard from me by May 1, then please feel free to email. In the meantime I'll be spending some time getting a new baseball simulator up and running as we try finish developing and implement the baseball version of United called TMBL United.
If you aren't in TMBL already and have some interest in such a game, just email me and I will try to get you involved if we have some capacity for adding teams.
In the meantime, please follow-on to this thread or write a Team News Article on how the season went for you.
Take care,
Al

Yeah, a nervy finish to the season on the viewer willing the otehr match to remain nil-nil, but not to be. Next season, we'll win the title, right?

Next season looking to get back into DIV 2. Have several good players and lots off youth.

Thanks for running the game Al and you were very unlucky not to win the big prize!
