We have a new MEDIA BONUS that replaces the old participation bonus.
You will see how you are doing each session with the DASHBOARD feature in the upper right.
Basic Rules:
- Each entry/comment is 5k.- Adds up to a max of 40k per session.
- Sessions include the two pre-season auctions and sessions 1-10
Comments can be entered for any one of these categories:
- Comments Wall (front page)
- Auctions
- Blog
- Forum
- Journal/Team News
- Matches (pre-match and post-match)
- Rankings
- Trades
- Transfer List (adding a player or making a hopefully snarky comment)
Please let me know if you add something you think should update your total (again, see upper right) and it doesn't. There could still be a couple gremlins to work through. Thanks!

Nice to see the new Media Bonus option, Al. How will this affect the old "Participation Bonus" table under the "Stats" section? Will it cease to function or be modified to include the new 40K ceiling and the two pre-season sessions?

OK I appear to have 25k already. Not that I'm complaining.

Stewart
Yes, I did remove that tab from the stats page. I intend to put it back in this weekend but have it abbreviated to one number per session so there's some work to unravel that. Might take another week. Initial focus will be to just get the code correct to update the team bank.
Steve
For the first session the starting part of the date range goes back quite a bit to the end of last season (maybe too far). Normally though it will be just the one week session between the deadlines.

Media bonus = "Al is a genius."
We haven't seen an Al genius of this magnitude since Mr. Davis owned the Raiders!

More blogs and journals then. It's nice and easy to see your current earnings.

Especially when you can see that meter ticking up and up... for some of us, that's going to be addicting.

One little adverse comment is that a one word post gets you the same amount as a five paragraph post.

Thanks for the feedback.
Stewart: Thanks for youtr note and all your posts the past few days!.
Your point is a valid one and here's how I view the alternatives:
1) Write code to count letters/words
2) Assign someone to manage reading and handing out the bonuses (I think we had that in a league I ran at one time)
3) Entrust that sometimes folks may write a one word comment and at other times they may write the five paragraphs so that in the end hopefully it all evens out. So keep it simple and just count posts. At the same time, if there's a trend to just write one word in 8 posts at a deadline just to get a quick bonus I won't be very happy with that person.
We will probably have some repeat posts too that I don't catch or am able to police/remove.
I feel like there could be a lot of work to make it perfect (and where would it end) so I'm just going for improvement.
In the end the goal of this change for me is to give managers a chance to interact more which I think improves the league(s) and I like the results so far.

I agree that there is no perfect solution to assigning participation payouts, Al. If I remember correctly Adam Meney in “The Manager” wrote a sub-routine which counted words in posts and awarded payouts accordingly up to a maximum amount. I have the job in SFLSL where, in order to be objective, I award 2K per line of text posted up to the maximum weekly payout which I calculate manually. I’m happy to accept whichever solution is easiest for you to manage.

I'm happy to get the full amount for minimal input lol :)
It's an interesting one really but I think whatever is decided it will help the league - I've already seen an increase in activity

This bonus is starting to take shape already. The return of a participation type tally will help immensely. Looking forward to this encouraging more engagement and I'll maybe even get to learn a thing or two about managers and their playing style. Great call Al.

New Media Bonus .......... and then I spotted the date. Doh!

I think that, in the spirit of trying to promote participation, the way it is now is good. Sometimes you'll get super short comments, sometimes you'll get longer posts. Any switch would surely mean Kevin Martin would get minimum 100k for each of his posts, given how much quality information he always imparts!
