![]() | Proposal: Coach of the Year Award Posted by |
I would like to propose a new award for Coach of the Year.
My idea would allow each coach one vote, to be cast after the final session each season. One week would be allowed for voting and votes would be tallied before next season's aging occurs (to allow all coaches to see the previous season's statistics). All coaches would be eligible candidates.
The idea would be to recognize a coach who perhaps turned a team around significantly during a season; set a new record (e.g. scoring, wins, multiple cup finals, etc.); or perhaps a rookie coach who exceeded expectations.
I would think the trophy could be tracked for each coach (regardless of what team they manage from year to year). In addition, a cash bonus would be awarded (e.g. 150-200k).
Any additional thoughts or suggestions from the league?

Should we call this the "Alon Atie award" and be done with it? =)

Rob Baptiste is a good candidate as well. winning a division title with 10+ points clear of the second spot is no easy task!

I like this idea even if I think either Mr. Stretch or Mr. Blair might be able to be considered before me. Abe, I apparently do not understand the philosophy of winning. Cups, that's the way to go - division titles are an afterthought, I think.

Are we then saying we give this award to the coach of the year besides Alon? Its a long-ish name, but...
I like the idea, however the award must be modest as we are giving money to one team (at least based on how I read this).
So I'd not want to go above 15k.
Anything higher and people would just vote for someone they didn't want to win like Ian, and then Ian would always win. To be clear the games I run always have anti-Ian rules and coding and I just can't allow Ian to win. It would remove his paranoia.

Good stuff, Al.
I think 15k is a bit low if we are congratulating someone on a great season (and no, Alon would not be the default victor each year). Perhaps this could be more on par with the Golden Boot award (25k).
While I agree that 150k is too high the more I think about it, I also feel 15k is too low to encourage voting on the award. Somewhere between 25-50k seems appropriate to me.
