If our World Cup nation selection process includes some/all personal selection(s), I am curious what people think about restrictions on managing one team for consecutive competitions. Please leave comments, questions and/or ideas. Thanks!

I think a limit of two consecutive Cups coaching the same nation is a good compromise.

If John wants to manage Croatia and no one else wants to, I can't see why you'd stop him just because he's done it before - however many times it's happened. But if he's managed Croatia the time before, even if just once, and someone else wants them, I'd make him stand aside.

I also think this is putitng the cart before the horse - we won't need to worry about this for awhile.

As Roger says, if nobody else wants to manage a team, why restrict it? It would be interesting to see how many people would actually want to switch teams.

Hi John,
Yes you're right, but I am excited about this addition so you might hear from more than normal. ?

We are waaaaaay overthinking this fun addition to the game.

I think a WC Commisioner could dole out teams. If a manager requests a team, done. If multiple managers want a team, that's what random number generators are for.

I think people will be in two buckets:
1) Give me a team I don't care
2) I'd really like this team or that team and also here's why (my country; 2nd favorite that I support; the Genetic test says my wife is 1% the nationality of this country; etc). ?
In terms of taking the approach the 2nd time (WC 2) around we can probably learn from the 1st one and gauge the group then.

Wait, wouldn't Phil be the presumed Inaugural Winner? There are precedents here if I can get all "lawyer-y" for a moment...

I should have explained my reasoning for limits on coaching one team multiple times. It was solely based on a comparison with reality where coaches might only get one or two shots at a trophy. Nothing more.
That being said, and given the thoughts and suggestions to date, I like the idea that those managers who want a specific country should have that opportunity, and we use a RNG to assign the remaining nations to country-less managers.

Rob,
We are on track to run the first WC after season 47 (before aging). I know that seems pretty far off, but we need time to populate the league with enough players from the various nations.

I will admit my desire to coach Die Mannschaft.

I think we have to coach our countries - so I get Portugal!

Not worried what country I get and should not limit number of times you can manage a team.

** UPDATE **
Based on consensus, there will be no restrictions on the number of times a manager can coach a national squad.

Will it be limited to only MSWL 1 players. Could the number of available players (and willing coaches) be fleshed out by pooling the 2 leagues? Apologies if this is somewhere, but I haven't read all the threads fully!

James,
As of right now the plan is to use U1 players. If a nation doesn't have enough players to field a team, my thought is to generate enough NL players for that cup only.
I would like to run at least the first Cup with U1 players and managers to see how things play out. This is a topic we can certainly revisit as the competition gets closer.

Is u2 a lesser league? Is that what we are saying here?
