Hi everyone, just a quick note to say hi and how much I'm looking forward to joining the game.
I played United in a few zines back in the 90s before marriage, kids and work intervened. I can't quite believe how long ago that is, but it's good to see quite a few names I recognise from back in the day - you guys clearly have more staying power than me! It'll be great to lock horns with you all again and to test myself against those I haven't met before (and having looked at the history of the game, I must admit to being in awe of some of you and downright terrified of quite a few more!)
If there's anyone out there feeling especially generous to a newbie, I'd love it if you could share one thing you wish you'd known when you started the game...

there are probably quite a few things but I´d say always make sure you get 4 apps up to level 10 each year. That way you will always have a few good young players coming through.

Thanks for finding this and joining Roger!
My best advice is this:
1) Take a screenshot of Lewes, Preston North End, and Tranmere (or just pick one team to follow) before each session and after.
2) Review what they did.
3) Did they add an auction player? If so, at what price?
4) How many SBY and APP players do they have and how are they growing them?
5) What about Age I+ players? Where are they applying their CPs?
6) Lastly, are they boosting FIT early in the season so players play at FIT 1 or 2 for most of the season?
So essentially, how is their roster changing after each session to grow their team? You can also see their orders in the match reports to see how they approach matches there too, but the building aspect is often big.
You can just pick one of the above teams. They are all members of what I call (or maybe someone else did and I borrowed it) the Evil Empire as they win all the time. :-)

I see Plymouth was left off that list... the team who literally dominated the rankings for nearly 3 full seasons, capturing their first top flight championship. I'd mark Brentford down on the calendar... but sadly they're not in our division LOL.

Hi Roger. I agree with Al and Vick: make sure you play your SBYs and APPs fully used especially until you are out the Youth Cup. After the Youth Cup you could drop one or two APPs. Try and get another GK because you will only have one APP GK next season and he can only play 2 games.
Get FIT up ASAP especially in age I and II top players - 4 CP on a II/12 player gives him 2 SL and could be the difference between a draw and a win and give you 5 CP more

Thanks for all your advice guys, it's gratefully received.
Evil Empire? They've only won 31 out of 40 league titles between the three of them. That's not...no hang on that is fairly darn Evil...but I'm picking up some pretty strong vibes (a force if you will) that Phil is our Luke Skywalker. Have I got that right?

Phil would probably say "YES" I think Roger. Phil wins all the "inaugural season" titles...
And yes you now see why the Evil Empire moniker has been applied...

I won inaugural seasons in MSWL, The MAX baseball league, and I think WFL. And the Morgan Cup in TMVL. The list grows as the events fall further away.
