Tranking a Player's SL through the Ages
Posted by Rob Peterson on Saturday, Feb. 7th, 2009 at 5:43 AM

The following table details how a player's SL can grow / shrink as the player ages.

  SL Loss  SL  RSD  SL
SBY 0 2 3 5
APP 0 5 5 10
I 0 10 5 15
II 2 13 3 16
III 3 13 3 16
IV 4 12 3 15
V 5 10 3 13
VI 6 7 3 10
VII 7 3 3 6

  • Per the rules, SBYs get their SL Raised (aka RSD) once every 3 matches. SBYs can only play in 1 match every session. We will have 10 sessions per season. Basic math then tells us that an SBY can only have his SL raised by 3 [ (1 * 10) / 3 = 3.333 ].
  • APPs get their SL raised once every 4 matches and they can play in 2 matches per session. The math tells us that an APP can have his SL raised by 5 [ (2 * 10) / 4 = 5 ].
  • The rules state that Age 1 players can have their SLs raised by 5 and all other non-Youth players can only have their SL raised by 3 per season.

With max coaching, a player will reach a max SL of 16 in both Age II and Age II. He'll remain a viable asset of the team through Age VII. At the end of Age VII, the player would be retired as he would lose 8 SL due to Aging.

While we may see a player or 2 in the Auctions who will have a slightly higher SL curve than the typical SBY starter, the above chart should be used to guide what a "max" player looks like.

Excellent Analysis, Thanks Rob!

Could a player not gain more skill levels with a youth couch (I think thats what they were called.)

For example if a schholboy is coached 10 times and never plays in a match wont  his  SL increase by 10?

The Youth Coach is a way to provide a player with 1 QNL (Qualification for the Next skill Level) in a given session.

Maybe you have a 2-game session, for example, and you'd rather play your best Gk than your SBY 2 Gk.  You can use your Youth Coach on that SBY 2 Gk to have the same effect of him playing in the match...so he can continue up the ladder (for SBY for every 3 games played they rise 1 SL, but can only play OR be Youth Coached once in a given session).

To be clear, no CP can be used on SBY/APP players, just Age I + (and that should hold true in your orders page...if not yell at me).
