On Saturday, January 5th, 2013...
Comrade Rob once again got out the checkbook...(or chequebooque as some might spell it).
This time he broke the all-time record for the cost of an auction player previously owned by Dave Van Dohm at 1756k for a II/14 Fw last season.
Comrade Rob added an APP/7 Fw, Bryan Lane, to the club for 1819k. In fact Crewe owns this Top 10 list having purchased 5 of the 10 most expensive auction players ever.
Obviously Dave Dohm never likes to be 2nd, so it could be a one-year type record for Comrade Rob.
This player has I/17 SL potential next season.
This player also has to face Dave Dowson's Southend United club twice this season.
Can Comrade Rob navigate Bryan Lane between the teams (like the aforementioned Mr. Dowson) who would no doubt enjoy seeing Mr. Lane fall short of his potential?
It will be an interesting season.
As an extra comment, noted cheapskate C-Ball somehow comes in 4th place with the 1/11 Fw he picked up two seasons ago. He probably meant to bid 724 and accidentally typed the 1 in front for the 1724 purchase price.
There's no need to comment on the lack of one Ian Tiberius Lindsay on this list so I won't. I'll let Comrade Rob once again do the talking in his scathing diatribe against the I-Man's inability to spend any money in a recent Ian's Midfield is Horrible Team News segment. Obviously I'm not here to disparage the I-Man.

I love graphs and lists.
any chance a future version of this graph could include the player's details as well (e.g. position, SL)?

Yes, I hope to do more of these now that I have a system figured out to create them.
On the main graph on the front page just hover over a column and you'll get the season, player age/SL and position.

Not only is Mr Lane the most expensive auction aquisition ever, he's also the only youth player on that top ten list.
Perhaps we should change his name to *cough* LeBron Lane *cough*.
